Hi gordon

Thanks for replying so promptly. I did some more research last night and noticed, as you have rightly said, that Charles was brother of the FIFTH baronet. I wonder if I'll ever get this right...

You've thrown me now on our 'Louisa'. My Louisa married a Jones, thus becoming Wynn-Jones. Perhaps my mother has remembered this incorrectly, because she refers to 'Louisa's' nephew, Jonathon/Johnny as the 8th Bart, which would make sense if her husband was the 7th. Elizabeth-Ellen's brother died of measles many years before she was born, so the baronetcy would have passed to Johnny. he had come to live with them in Wales when his parents died.

Unfortunately mum does not know much about her great grandfather. He disowned Elizabeth-Ellen when she married beneath her class, to a mere station boy. He argued the boy was only after her money, which, as it turned out, he was. I do know that she was very bitter about him, as he did not let her see her mother ('Louisa') in her dying days. That tipped what had previously been adoration into hate. There is a very slim possibility that she would have made him out to be someone he was not, perhaps??? That is rather confusing. It would be in her style to add the irony that he was far below her mother's class when THEY married. I'll try and find out more on that matter.

The only thing I know about Johnny historically is that he was the 8th Bart, so my mother says. We also know that he sold Wynnstay in the late forties to some kind of educational institute, when Elizabeth-Ellen wouldn't live there and he found no need for it. I'll try and find plausibility of that.

Get back to you soon.

Laura-Elizabeth
