My research has hit a brick wall. I am hoping someone out there can help me. My grandmother, Julia Marion Horton (b 26 Nov 1880 Pagham, Sussex, England, d 18 Jun 1974 Toronto, ON, Can) married a George Caleb Wyatt (b 19 Oct 1870 and d 27 Sep 1933 in Toronto, ON, Can). Their first child was born Jan of 1906 (Thomas Horton Wyatt) so I assume they married in 1905. There is a George Caleb Wyatt in the Index for Marriages registered in Oct/Nov/Dec of 1905 - Vol 2B pg 826, Westhampnett, Sussex - that I believe fits but I suppose I need to mail for the certificate to actually find both he and Julia Marion on it. (my next step with him) I know that they had three children born in England (Thomas above, Roy Horton Wyatt in July 1908 and Dora Horton Wyatt in Aug 1912). Four more children were born in Toronto, ON, Can. George Wyatt came to Toronto in 1912 before his daughter was born in England. It is believed he worked for Tip Top Tailors before working for the Toronto Transit Commission until his death and that he was an accomplice tailor in England. The only George Caleb Wyatt I could find in the B/M/D index was one born in Birmingham District, Warkwickshire, Vol 6D but it is the Oct/Nov/Dec of 1867 records and from what info I have that is 3 years too soon. I cannot order this or any other birth certificate until I have some kind of further proof. I located his death certificate which says that his father's name was Robert. I don't know how reliable this is. There is no name for his mother and his birthplace simply indicates England. I think I have found the Horton family going back in the 1901 1891 and the 1881 census in the Barrack House on Aldwick Rd in Pagham. There is Thomas b(b abt 1843 in Petworth, Sussex), his wife Mary (Farnden B abt 1852 in UpMarden), and their children: Ellen, William, Mary A, Elizabeth, Sarah L, Ruth, Fanny, Julia M (my grandmother), Jessie, Constance, Ethel, Rose, Florence and Thomas. In 1871 Thomas, Mary and daughter Ellen are at W Lower Stone (Wall, Cottage) in Bosham. Then I believe Thomas is with his parents in 1861 in Woolavington, Chichester. He is 19. His parents are Thomas Sr and Ruth (Leggett b 21 May 1820 in Lodsworth and d 1867 in Graffham). His siblings are Martha, Ruth, Amos and another brother I cannot read (perhaps Jesse). There is also a widower lodger aged 71 with them by the name of James Horton (perhaps Thomas' father). Thomas Sr is shown as 46 years old and an Ag Labourer. In 1851 Thomas Sr is shown as a lawyer. He is 36 with wife Ruth, and children Jane, Thomas, Martha, William, and Ruth. They are living on Graffham Street in the village of Graffham. In the 1871 Thomas Sr is with another wife, Mary (63 yrs old) and in 1881 and 1891 census, Thomas Sr is with wife Lucy. It is believed that Thomas Sr's parents were James Horton and Jane Challen, both born in 1788 in Woolavington. He had two brothers, George and John. My BRICKWALL is the WYATT family. I cannot seem to find out his parents or siblings as there seems to be so many George Wyatts!! I am hoping by giving the information I have here that someone may be able to connect the dots to my George and give me some more information so I can narrow down which George it is I need to be following. Perhaps someone from the Horton family knows which Wyatt family Julia married into. I know almost all of her siblings stayed in England. A couple younger ones came over here and stayed in Canada but that was all. Thanks to anyone who can inch me along further! Donna Decker Carlaw Notify Administrator about this message?
