There is controversy about the ancestry of John Wyatt (1652-1684) m. Anne Jones that has been addressed in this forum in the past. The question is whether John's parents were John Wyatt (1630-1666) and Jane Osborne, as many sources state, or whether his father was William Wyatt, whose spouse and ancestry are not known.
I am a descendant of Lucy Wyatt (1758-1847) m. James Hawkins, lived in Virginia, moved to Logan County, Kentucky. We have a book of family letters of Judge David Walker (a grandchild of Lucy Wyatt) of Fayetteville, Arkansas, including one from a family genealogist (H.C. Hawkins), dated Dec 1876, that cites evidence that Lucy Wyatt's father "was a branch of the same Wyatt family of which was the English Baronet Wyatt, Virginia's first Governor". If Hawkins's statement is correct, there must have been a line of male Wyatt descendants from either Hawte [Haute] Wyatt or Sir Francis Wyatt that leads to Lucy Wyatt.
One writer on this site has cited evidence that a William Wyatt had a son, John Wyatt, who married an Ann Jones. It seems possible that there was a second John Wyatt, son of Hawte Wyatt, who continued a line of male Wyatts. Ann Jones is a common name, and it is even possible there were two couples in Virginia named John Wyatt and Ann Jones. The population of Virginia in 1660 was 30,000, large enough to support such a possibility.
One of my questions is whether there is positive proof that Hawte Wyatt had no male children. I also wonder if anyone has any documentation on the parents and earlier ancestors of Lucy Wyatt. Thanks!
