Steven: Since you have Ancestry would you mind looking up the George Woolf in Lawrence Co. 1820 Tenn. and tell me what you think as to the possible matches with our George's known children? I have the Sullivan Co. printed census and it doesn't give birth place of the parents as the original census does, but George's son Thomas J. Wolfe was listed p. 41 and he gives his own place of birth as Tenn. He was born 1811. Thirza is on the same page. and Thirza says she was b. in ohio. (she was born in 1809 so this is incorrect.)Sarah Wolfe Woodward p. 43--it says she was born in Ohio also and this too is incorrect. She was born in 1818. And this book does agree that George was b. in Penn. We have no proof other than census that George ever lived in Va. (Catherine says she was born in Va. in one census year)There is no record I have found to place our George and Rebecca in Ohio before 1823. My Levi is listed in 1850 b. Ohio and in 1860 as born in Va. Who turned in this stuff? It's a confusing mess.
I do know that experts agree that the two most frequently incorrect records are cemetary records and census records. The first because information was most commonly given by children or neighbors and the latter were usually given by the wife or an older child.
