WIGHTs of SE Kentucky and Northern Alabama - Will Wight

Hello,

I am trying to locate information about my Great Grandfather Will Wight. The Wight family I am related to lived in Southeastern Kentucky, and for a short time in Northern Alabama. I will list all the information that I know. It has all come from my Grandmother Iley Wight. Will Wight is her father, and she says that he shared VERY little about his extended family. It seems that there was a rift between him and his relatives.

Will Wight b. 10 Mar 1895 around Knox or Bell County, Kentucky, d. 07 Dec 1962 in Kettle Island, Bell County, Kentucky.

He married Lydia Short in approx. 31 Jan 1920 in Walker County, Alabama. Lydia Short was b. abt. 1902 and d. 13 Aug 1934 in Kettle Island, Bell County, Kentucky due to Tuberculosis and child birth.

will and Lydia had 5 children:
Jay Wilson Wight b. 1923 in Walker County, Alabama
William Westly Wight b. 22 Sep 1925, d. 19 Feb 2002
Edward Earl Wight b. 1929 in Walker County, Alabama
Iley Wight (Twin to Niley) b. 1931 in Kettle Island, Bell County, Kentucky.
Niley Wight (Twin to Iley) b. 1931 in Kettle Island, Bell County, Kentucky.

Will Wight married a woman named Nannie Cox shortly after Lydias death. Will and Nannie had several children also.

My grandmother tells me about stories her father Will told her about being a cook on a ship that sailed to South America, but I can't seem to find any info about this. Will Wight did not serve in WWI. I do not know the reason why Will Wight went from Kentucky down to Alabama or when during his youth. All I know is he was there when he and Lydia got married in 1920. And in btwn. 1929-1931, I know he got in trouble with the law (maybe a shooting involving a fish and game warden?), and had to flee Alabama back to Kentucky with his family. If ANYONE can help me find a newspaper article in Walker County, Alabama or vicinity about this I would be in their debt.

I have been able to find a lot of info about Lydia Short's family, but Will Wight's side is a mystery. I can't find him and his parents in Census records until 1930 when Will and Lydia were married.

If anyone has ANY information about WIGHT's in Kentucky or Alabama, please let me know. I have hit a BIG ROADBLOCK.

Thank you for your time,
Christopher Collett
