Very interesting... see if this fits at all. My father William Shaw Whyte was born in your city but moved to Galasgow with older brother John who was 2 yrs older. My Dad William S Whyte theh moved to NY and later his older brother followed. My Dad worked at the Met in NY later moved to Ca in 1952 and his brother moved to Fla ( John ).
Just in last few days I heard from John's son Norman my cousin who I never met. But the William Whyte you were looking for does fit and John was his older brother I have noo info on rest of family but he did say he had ohter brothers sisiters and cousins in Scotland.
