Parents of Benjamin Whiting born 1827 New York?

I hoping someone can help with this:

I have been trying to find the parents' names of:

Benjamin Whiting born 1827
William Whiting born 1826

These brothers fought in the Civil War and both died. William was buried in Elgin, Iowa and Benjamin in Port Hudson, Louisiana. On their Civil War registries, they both list New York as their place of birth.

It would mean a great deal to my mother if I could find her relatives for her. Any help at all is greatly appreciated!
