I have been looking online for the ancestry of my cousin Wilbur Floyd Whiting, who died in Plymouth, Massachusetts, on Christmas Eve., at the age of 95. Several messages here from some years ago (mostly 1999-2002) concern Wilbur's kin, the Whitings of Lyme, Connecticut and environs. Some of those messages were from Karlene Wiemann, whose forum e-mail address is no longer valid.
Wilbur's father Floyd Francis Whiting (1878-1970) was born in East Lyme, CT, one of several children (with interesting names) of James and Helen (Tinker) Whiting. Floyd was called Floramon as a child, e.g. in the 1880 Census. Floyd married in 1909, in Brookline, Mass., Mamie (Maria Henriette) Lembke (1878-1949, my great-grandmother's sister). Floyd & Mamie lived in Brookline, then in East Weymouth, Mass. They had only one child, Wilbur, born 1911 in Brookline. Wilbur was an artist and carpenter (furniture design & repair, refinishing) and World War II Veteran (he sewed & packed parachutes for the Army Air Corps in England); Wilbur never married.
Wilbur's grandfather James Whiting's parents were apparently James and Salome (Tillotson) Whiting (the younger James, b. 1840, was living with elder James & Salome in the 1860 census). I have found a Tillotson ancestry for Salome on WorldConnect. Helen / Nellie (Tinker) Whiting's parents are apparently William and Nancy M. Tinker (1850 Census, Lyme)--William b. about 1826 and Nancy b. about 1828.
I would appreciate any confirmation or extensions of the ancestry of James & Helen (Tinker) Whiting.
