Good morning, David .... Thanks so much for your reply. Even though we are probably not related, it was quite interesting to me to read the connection with White & Kirk in Amarillo. Most of my teenage years were spent in Dalhart Texas, 90+ miles northwest of Amarillo. It was a long drive to go shopping, but back in those days (actually it's still that way) Amarillo was the closest place for any serious shopping .... White & Kirk was was THE PLACE to shop! My branch of the White tree came in to Philadelphia in 1722 (think "A Line of White", by Jack D White Sr), and shortly thereafter, began the trek south spending a few years in Delaware, then down to Anson County, NC. My 5 gr grandfather Joseph Sr was the first sheriff of Anson County in 1749, he and son Joseph Jr fought in the American Revolution. Joseph Jr's son Henry led the next family emigration circa 1815 when most of them headed for Perry County Tennessee and more space. Evidently Anson County had become too populated and land grants were an endangered species! Tennessee was wide open, so Henry, the last real patriarch, led several brothers, sisters, nephews, etc., and their families to this new-found land. Henry's son Robert was the first of this line to arrive in Texas in 1837, stopping first in Walker County, then on to Leon County where he ended his days, and where many of his descendants still live. Robert and his wife Nancy Coburn had a rather large family (14 children), who then spread out to help build and populate the Republic of Texas .... unfortunately, not to any of the areas you mentioned. Other Whites, cousins and such, also found their way to Texas, settled and raised families. Even though I find no connection between our lines of White, it was very interesting to me to get a glimpse of another branch of this tree. It's possible that your Gainesville branch drifted south to Tarrant County and Rufus Henry is your line .... or the connection may be so far back that's it is no longer relevant. Anyway, I have enjoyed touching base with you, and really appreciate your answer. Maybe our paths will cross again somewhere down the line .... Betty Notify Administrator about this message?
