White family of Iowa (African American)

Please note this is an African American family.

Drum White was born c1837 in Virginia. His wife Elizabeth was also born in Virginia c1861. The couple are recorde in Iowa by 1885, where Drum worked as a coal miner first in Mahaska and later in Wapello County.

Drum had children: William, Rosa, and Anna. William was born in Virginia and Rosa and Anna in Iowa. Rosa married Robert Redrick.

Drum may be the son found on the 1880 Census in Surry County, Virginia for Reuben and his wife Mariah White. I believe this family had been enslaved by Edwin White a planter in Surry county. Reuben's mother may be the woman Chaney listed in the Surry Registry of Slave Births. A woman with that name (or Cherry) is found in Reuben's household.
