Thomas Wilson, buried Abingdon VA; Civil War

I have a brochure on the Sinking Springs Cemetery; site #22:

"Thomas Wilson White was one of the 257 young Virginia Military Institute cadets who participated in the Battle of New Market, Virginia, on May 15, 1865. Ten died there or later from wounds, and 45 additional cadets were injured."

This young man must have been from the Abingdon area since it is a great distance from New Market.

I am not researching the family and have no further information.
