I'm happy to hear from any Weitz from the Boston area. I know that Matilda moved there, probably in the late 1850's or early 1860's as I can not find Henry Gustav Weitz in the Buffalo census in 1860. I believe he had died and Matilda had married a man who's last name was Stoudt or Stout, and moved to Boston. It's possible that your Greatgrandfather and my Greatgrandfather are related as cousins. Carl WEitz, my great uncle hadno known childen that I'm aware of, but the name alone makes me think perhaps it was a family name. Carl George WEitz, son of Henry G. and Mary Cullen Weitz, d. at age 38 in Providence RI. He had married Alice Hartley who died two years before him, in 1922 at age 39. She died,apparently after complications of childbirth but the child didn't survive. Carl was an insurance agent in Providence from his death certificate.
I know that relatives remained in Boston. One was a Herbert Weitz and in the 1940's, while my father was in flight school, he wrote to Herbert. I also know that when my grandfather, Emil Francis WEitz, was born in Providence, one set of relatives (either Cullen's or Weitz') "Kidnapped" him and had him baptized in Boston, but I don't know where. If I oculd find that, I could find relatives in Boston, but have no idea how to go about doing that. This was in the 1889/90 era.
Do you know of any Herbert Weitz? Does that ring any bells. I'm at a total loss of finding any of them, at this point. All the relatives are deceased. I was lucky enough to find some of my father's letters in my grandmother's papers as well as a diary she kept. Apparently the "christening" of my grandfather against his parents wishes, caused a great deal of friction between one set of the families, but I'm not sure who did what. I know this took place in a Catholic Church, which must have not set well within one of the Protestant groups, but that could be the Lutheran German's, or the presbyterian Scots,. On the other hand, since these were northern Irish, they may well have been the Protestant ones, and the German's (from now Poland) may have been Catholic or Jewish for all I know. I know my grandfather was basically raised without religion after that, though my father was raised as a Protestant. All of this leads to total confusion in where to look for records in Boston.
IN any case, if Herbert might ring a bell or Matilda (?Fellows?) Weitz Stout (Stoudt?) ring a bell, we could easily be closely related. I'd love to sort out Daddy's family. I'd love to even find anyone with some link. Of my grandfather's 7 siblings (Clara, Gertrude, Henry, Bill, Carl, Emil, Mary "Mamie", Claude) only Emil & Henry had children who survived. Henry had one, now dec'd and never married, and Emil (my grandfather) had 3, now all dec'd, but with living children. The only other one to have a child, was Bill, and that child died in infancy. It doesn't leave many of us and we'd like to find the rest of our paternal family. Luckily, my mother's family tree consists of over 75000 individuals, but poor Daddy loses out.
Any ideas?
