My grandmother was Elizabeth A. Weitz, b. 27 July 1872, in East Prussia. Her parents were John Phillip Weitz and Kathrina ?. Her parents brought her to America in the spring of 1872, when she was seven months old. This information was preserved by her descendants. On the other hand, records in steam ship passengers in 1892 shows a John Phillip Weitz and Kathrina with an Elizabeth and younger siblings. The age of Elizabeth in the latter case fits that of Elizabeth who was my grandmother and of her siblings. Is it possible that John Philip Weitz was married to another Catherine earlier and came to America first in 1872. His first wife died and he returned with Elizabeth to marry a second Kathrine. Then he returned to the US with his new family and Catherine in 1892. I know it is a stretch, but the names John Phillip Weitz and Katherine Weitz are plentiful in the Weitz families. Wanda Cole
