I too have been told a similar story. The one I heard has Bernard Weise as a count who lost his rank because he married a commoner. This same story has him born in Austria rather than Germany and born 7/12/1809 with his death on 8 Apr 1895 in Cresson Cambria Co. Pennsylvania. He was a member of the 104th Pa. Vol. This is from a photo of his tombstone. Who knows if that is correct? Are we talking the same person?
