BERNHARD WILHELM “BEN” WEBER, 92, of Lakefield, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at Colonial Manor, Lakefield.

Born May 4, 1914, in Rost Township, Jackson County, he was the son of Gustav and Ida Ahrens Weber. He married Geraldine Carstensen Oct. 23, 1935, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. She died June 5, 1995.

He grew up on the family farm and attended rural school. Following marriage, the couple farmed the Weber homestead west of Lakefield. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lakefield.

Surviving are two sons, Gerald (Mary Jo) Weber, Long Grove, Iowa, and Terry (Fran) Weber, Ballwin, Mo.; one daughter, Bernadine (Douglas) Boyum, Waconia; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hansen Funeral Home, Lakefield, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lakefield.

The service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lakefield, with the Rev. Jonathan Nack officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lakefield.


HENRY JOHN DE KAM, 86, of Edgerton and formerly of Leota, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at Edgebrook Care Center, Edgerton.

Born April 12, 1920, on the family farm near Leota, he was the son of John and Tillie Lubben De Kam. He married Alice Van Dyke Dec. 18, 1941, in Leota.

He attended the Leota Christian School from 1925 to 1932. As a young man, he worked on the farm with his parents. Following marriage, the couple resided on the family farm. He continued to farm until he was 57. In 1977, the couple moved into Edgerton, where he obtained his high school diploma and real estate license. After his retirement, he remained active by helping his son, Don, on the farm for a number of years. In January 2004, he moved into Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. He was a member of First Reformed Church, Edgerton. In his earlier years, he served on the Leota Christian School board and the Southwest Christian High School board.

Surviving are his wife; six children, Roger (Kathy Smith) De Kam, Egan, S.D., Joan (Bill) Frederick, Caledonia, Mich., Don (Virginia) De Kam, Leota, Brenda (Leroy) Stoel, Willmar, Arvin De Kam, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Verlyn (Helen) De Kam, Leota; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at First Reformed Church, Edgerton.

The service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Reformed Church, Edgerton. Burial will be in Leota Community Cemetery, Leota.

Hartquist Funeral Home, Pipestone Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
