In Reply to: William Richard Cutters Article -NY land by Kurt W. Webber of 2232

I recently received information from my
Aunt that Samuel Webber is my GGGGGF. My GGGM, Rebecca Webber was involved in a lawsuit to get back land in Central Park, NY. When Rebecca died her daughter Eleanor destroyed all the papers and said no more money on that foolishness! My Grandmother used to say that we were related to the queen of Holland. My Aunt sent me a copy of the document from 1847 referring to Anneke Jantz. Very interesting.

My family is from Newburyport and that is where my father Donald was born.

Well, my GGGGGF Samuel Webber was born in 1760 and died 1810. He was president of Harvard from 1806 - 1810. The following is from Currier's "The History of Newburyport Massachusetts 1764 - 1905".

{Samuel Webber, son of John and Rachel (Harris) Webber, was born in Byfield, Newbury, January (?) 13, 1760. He was fitted for college at Dummer Academy, and graduated at Harvard in 1784. After completing his studies for the ministry, he accepted, in 1787, the position of tutor of the college, and was appointed, in 1789, Hollis professor of mathematics and natural philosophy. March 11, 1806, he was elected president of the corporation, but did not assume the duties of theat office until the twelfth of May following. In 1789, he married Rebecca Smith of Golucester, and by this marriage had the following named children:

George, born in 1791; died in 1809, unmarried.
Sophia, born in 1792; died in 1866.
Matilda, born in 1795; married Prof. James F. Dana of Dartmouth College.
Samuel, born in 1797; married Anna Winslow Green of Medford in 1823.
John A., born in 1799; married Sarah Heckling of Boston.
Caroline, born in 1801; died in 1825; unmarried.

He (Samuel Webber) died in Cambridge July 17, 1810.}

The following is the lineage according to my Aunt:

John Webber m. Rachel Harris
Samuel Webber m. Rebecca Smith
Samuel Webber m. Anna Winslow Green
Rebecca Webber m. ? Pearson
Eleanor Pearson m. Henry Levy
Ella Levy m. Wilfred Benoit
Donald Benoit m. Constance Toussaint
Peter Benoit (thats me!)

If anyone can make a connection here your help is most appreciated!
