My group of Weist/Weast/Wease came from NC. There is another possible group you connect to which came from Frederick Weiss that also resided in NC. Some are of the opinion the 2 families are not related others are suspicious that they are. The Weiss/Wise family is somewhat addressed in the book German Speaking People West of the Catawba by Lorena Aker. I will address my own group somewhat here in an effort to help. The name is spelled every possible imaginable name in the documentation I have found but proof of relation is available regardless of spelling.
John 'Jacob' Weist/Weast married Mary Yearwood in Rutherford Co. NC Dec. 2, 1794. Jacob died before 1830 and Mary was shown in that census as the head of household. She remarried to Samuel Rose of Macon Co. NC as proven by his American Rev. Pension files. Her living children are named in her will as Adam Weast, Margaret Lowery, Eliabeth Logan, Catherine Weast, & Nancy Weast.
ADAM b. 1799 married Sophia Fortune March 12, 1826 in Rutherford Co. NC. This family
moved to AR about 1852. Children were:
James b. 1827 d. 1870 in Lawrence Co. AR m. Sarah Williams
William b. 1829 d. 1885 Marion Co. AR
m. Malinda Jane Rollins
George W. b. 1831 d. 1914 Newport, AR
m. Mollie Lanier
Benjamin L. b. 1835 d. Aft. 1900, married Mary A. Weathersby in TX, d. in New Mexico.
Sarah E. Weast b. 1837 d. ? m. F. Wood
moved to TX & later shown in Indian Territory, perhaps OK.
Mary Weast b. 1840 d. 1919 AR m. Nin
Wood
John J. Weast b. 1833 d. 1912 in OK,
m. Nancy Smart
Martha J. Weast b. 1842 d. 1918 AR m.
John Wood
Columbus C. Weast b. 1844 d. 1924 m.
Eliza Russell & Letta A. ?
Leonard Weast b. 1845 d. 1928 m. Sarah Williams Weast the widow of his brother James Weast.
MARGARET married Ransom Powell Lowery & moved to Macon Co. NC.
ELIZABETH married Levi Logan and moved to Macon Co. NC and later on to GA.
CATHERINE b. 1801
resided in Rutherford Co. NC
and never married. However she did have
proven children:
Jacob L. Weast b. July 1824 d. after 1888 who was fathered by Thomas Hutchins. Jacob m. Susannah Dykes & Elizabeth Jane Williams.
Elizabeth P. Weast b. 1827 who married William S. Robertson.
Marvel G. Weast b. 1830 d. 1863 @ Goldsboro NC during the Civil War.
There is probably one more daughter attributable to Catherine/Caty Weast.
NANCY Weast b. 1810 never married but is proven to have children:
Joseph H. Weast b. 1829 d. 1913 in NC
m. Elizabeth Weeks.
Sophia Malinda Weast b. 1837 d. 1910 in
AR m. James McGaughey.
The line of Jacob L. Weast/son of Catherine Weast is of paticular interest to me since it is my direct line. Most of the descendants are using the name Wease or
Weese today.
