I would like to know, without getting out of my comfortable armchair, where Ben Terrys land was. In particular the boundary of his first 300 acres. My library doesn't have the deed books for 1780's etc so I have missed out on a lot, and I was hoping someone could share the info. I have worked out, without leaving said comfortable armchair, that Ben Terry's land is ,I think, at the mouth of Sweeting Fork. All his property was joined, not scattered about. I had some info from days gone by,when I got out of my chair much more often to gather said info, and I was able to plot the land out. You have to use the plot in the Pittsylvania survey book and the info on line at the libray of Virginia as the descriptions are bad, sometimes saying NW instead of SE etc. So you have to look at the plot too. Also the land must have been hard to survey as they keep changing the description of the lines when re recording the land. Anyway, the 300 acres probally sits on the other side of the Sandy Creek from the rest of the land.(which is all to the south of the Sandy Creek)(some lines of the 369 patent match line's in Nat Terry's big patent) One boundry of the 369 acs mentions Ben Terry's old line, which I take to be the 300 acres. Unfortunately the patent for Nat Terry's 7050 acres has three spots that say go down the stream , but otherwise doesn't tell you anything. So I could not exactly figure out his land, by the time I plotted in small scale(not too exact but good for drafts) and came around to the beginning , it didn't match. However it was plain that the mounth of Sweeting Fork was the only spot that would fit in to be Ben Terry's land, as Nat Terry's land goes all the way to Johns Run(not the Johns Run of Sweeting Fork) Echols Fork has to be the run between the two Johns Runs on Terraserver. That part worked out very well. Nat Terry's lines,in that area, made sort of a figure 8 .The top of the 8 Nat Terry patented and the bottom of the 8 belonged to John Justice who sold to his sons who in turn sold to Theo Lacy. (I think that the land Rich. Murphy bought from Nat Terry was near the top of the 8.) Dugeon & Rich. Lane are mentioned as having boundaries on the west side of the figue 8. Getting back to Ben Terry, Thomas Hutchings seems to be his neighbor on the west, south of Sweeting Fork, and Thomas Statton is west & south of Thomas Hutching. Jeremiah Whites 150 ac is above Thomas Stratton. John King divides his land when he dies.(John King is the southern property owner to Ben Terry) and William White gets part on the west and Chris Connaway part on the right. John Kings property lines are a particular mess and you need the plot. ALso the new people claim shorter lines so the first patent must have been off. John Fox is to the west of William White I think when it says mill on the John Fox patent it means on the split of Sandy Creek where there is a very big fork not labeled on Terraserver. I think Mine Branch is present day Pine Branch.Jos Terry and Ben Harding, & George Harding have land to the west of Pine Creek. But its messy and I didn't work it out. Ben Terry's smallest propery is to the east of Pine Br. (after Thos & Jos Terry whose land I could not work out from my armchair) Then come Hery Terry whose land seems to come up to Bar Branch. To the south is Lazurus Dodson, who seems to have a patent I found and another I didn't. To get a better idea I would need those patent lines, but at least I now have an idea about where Benjamin Terry Sr lived. ( Ben Terry Jr seemed to live north near Shocko Creek. The Robert Jone 750 ac he mentions next to Ben Terry that Rbt Jones wants to sell 1771 may be near Ben Terry Jr.??? because Rbt Jones's patent of 750 ac I found mentions Shocko Creek and could not possibly have made it to Ben Sr's land that I plotted.Maybe he had another 750 acres I didn't find.)
