Hello Joshua, In the 1880 census of Marlboro County South Carolina, Smithville Township, the household of William K. Sweatt is enumerated as follows: Wm. K. Sweatt w.m. 68 Farmer Mary Ann Sweatt w.f. 40 wife Martin L. Sweatt w.m. 7 son Wm. L. Sweatt w.m. 5 son Eddie F. Sweatt w.f. 4 dau Adgennora Sweatt w.f. 3 dau Tolank K. Sweatt w.m. 1 son John Mender w.m. 14 other Farm Laborer Susan Ann (?) Coward Sweatt had died in October of 1872 and William K. Sweatt had apparently taken another wife, Mary Ann. Apparently she gave him all of the above named Sweatt children. I am wondering if it is possible that John Mender was a son of Mary Ann by a former marriage or just exactly what John Mender's relationship to William K. Sweat were. Would you happen to know the answer to these questions. Also do you know what Mary Ann's name was prior to her marriage to William K. Sweat? What happened to her after his death? James R.
