Swank Family Genealogy Forum

Hi, Tim,
I tried to see if your Westmoreland County Swanks tied into mine, but I don't believe they do. Check Mount Pleasant Twp., Westmoreland Co. I found your John, age 42, and Jennie, age 35, with son John, age 15, and a host of other children there in 1930. Living with them is John's brother, Charles, age 47, and John's father, David, age 67. David was born in Ohio as were his parents. I was not able to track him further back with just a first name, approximate age and born in Ohio for information. David is found in 1910 in Mount Pleasant Twp. also and is already a widower. His wife was born in PA, based on where his children said their mother was born so David may have moved to PA prior to marrying and possibly as a child with his parents. Children still living with him in 1910 were Samuel, Mary and William. Samuel, married to Sadie, is the father of your Thomas W., Sr. and is also found in Mount Pleasant Twp. in 1930. Since he has shown himself as Samuel E., he may (stress may) be the Emerson Swank who married Sadie Rodgers 01 May 1916 in Westmoreland Co., lic. #40641.
You might want to have your daughter-in-law see if any older members of her family know anything about the family having been in Ohio. If your Ohio Swanks track back to Westmoreland Co. in an earlier time frame, I may be able to find a connection to mine. My family was primarily in Washington, Allegheny, Burrell Twps. in Westmoreland Co. with some of them moving to neighboring Armstrong Co. We go back to the year 1800, but are stuck there. My brother did the Y-DNA test so we are awaiting results to see if we came from where we think we did.
Mary Lou
