As I researched the Stone line from Franklin county, N.C. some have listed John Stone who married Sarah Walker-Stone as being born in Cumberland county but this is not so. As I continued I found a second line of Stone family members from near the coastal area of Bladen county who migrated up the Cape fear river into Cumberland and Roberson counties. The town of Lumberton is in Roberson county. Interstate I-95 runs through both counties today. It very well could be that John L. Stone that you seek was of the Bladen county Stone line that moved into Cumberland and neighboring Harnett county and settled in the area we know as the Spring Lake area of Cumberland county and along Little or Upper River into Harnett county near the community of Cornith not far from the head waters of the Cape Fear River in the moncure area of Chatham county.
