From The County Liner and Cedar Vale Commercial, Cedar Vale, KS, Friday, November 20, 1914, page 1:

Dr. S. M. Stone Passes Away

Dr. S. M. Stone died at the home of his son, Josh, yesterday morning at 5:00, after a lingering
illness of several years. He became confined to his bed Sunday evening and gradually grew
weaker until the end. Dropsy was said to have been the cause.

Mr. Stone was 77 years old the ninth of this month. He had resided here for about fifteen years,
having made regular visits here for several years previous, practicing his profession, dentistry.

The body will be taken to Cherryvale, to be interred Saturday or Sunday beside his wife in the
family vault.

From the Cherryvale (KS) Daily Republic, Thursday, November 19, 1914, page 1:

Former Resident Dead.

Dr. S. M. Stone, a retired dentist of Cedarvale, and formerly a resident of Cherryvale, died this
morning at 5 o’clock at his home, according to a dispatch received this morning by John Coldwell
of this city. Dr. Stone is remembered by all old settlers of this vicinity as he practiced here for
several years. Lately he had been in poor health and had turned his dental work over to his son,
Joshua, with whom he made his home. He is survived by the son and two daughters, both of
whom live in San Francisco. The body will be brought to Cherryvale for burial as soon as funeral
arrangements have been made. A brother, Joshua Stone, Sr., died last April at Independence.
