Ann
We are not directly related to David Stone who was Governor of North Carolina through the line of Jonathan Stone and his brothers from Halifax and Franklin County, N.C.,. David Stone that was Governor was born in Bertie County about 17 February 1770 and died 07 October 1818; the son of a farmer.
It could very well be a a given name of one of William Stone Sr.'s brothers children who's full name was not listed or could be that David's father was a nephew to William but William had three son's by 1763 and it was through Jonathan born in 1757 who was the grandfather of the James Albert Stone that you were seeking making the birthdates of Jonathan, William, and John Sr. more in line to being a brother of David Stone the Governor than their children. Jonathan being the oldest brn; 1756 would have been only 14 years old when David Stone the Governor was born in 1770. So it is unlikely he came through the three brothers. But possible he was a cousin.
