Mary Laura Steed is my sister and we are the daughters of Philip Carter Steed. Your mother, Elizabeth Steed, was my first cousin. I remember you and your brothers, Clark and Clay visiting the family farm in Talbotton.
Six or seven years ago, while living on Jekyll Island, I visited Talbotton and researched some of the family records at the Talbot County Courthouse. I tried to locate the farm, but since the house had burned years and years ago, I was unable to locate the farm precisely, despite vivid memories. I did speak to one person who remembered "Miss Gussie", my aunt, Augusta.
I came across your inquiry about Mary Laura while running a Google search on V. A. Steed. It would be interesting to know what you have learned of the family origins.
