Grundy, VA – John Stacy, 82, died Wednesday, July 30,
2008, at a Kingsport, Sullivan Co TN, hospital.

Born May 3, 1926, in McDowell County, West Virginia, he
was the son of the late Blaine and Jenny Rowe Stacy. He
was a retired mechanic for Jewell Coal and Coke Co., a
U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the
American Legion John Ratliff Post 1634. He was also a
member of the VFW and Little Prater Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
one great-grandchild, Garrett Stacy; five brothers, Keister,
Ralph, Ronnie, Jerry and Marvin Stacy; and one sister,
Geraldine Richardson.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Stacy; three daughters,
Judy Stacy and Mrs. Donald (Susie) Rife, both of Grundy,
VA, and Jane Somerdyke of Grand Rapids, MI; two sons,
Terry and Steve Stacy, both of Grundy, VA; grandchildren,
Tracy Holman, Amanda Stacy, Robin Shortridge, John Stacy,
Shane Stacy and Deanna Cooper; great-grandchildren, Gunner
and Caleb Holman, Austin Shortridge, Allison Stacy, Kayla
Hagy and Gage, Baylee and Dylan Stacy; three sisters,
Peggy Lane and Audrey Rife, both of Grundy, and Louisa
Stemm of Chesapeake; and one brother, Bob Stacy, of
Greeneville, TN.

Services will be held Saturday, August 2, at 11 a.m. at
Virginia Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Andy Maynard
and evangelist Bill Neeley officiating. Burial will follow
in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock. Friends may
call after 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A service
has been scheduled for 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Vandyke, Donald Rife, Dale
Somerdyke, Hot Rod Blankenship, Casey Shortridge, Duke
Collier, Fred McCracken and John Snead. Honorary pall-
bearers will be Jerry Matney, Ernest Rife, Conrad Cochran,
'The Bull Gang,' 'The Car Club,' James Keen, Dr. D.N. Patel
and Dr. J.G. Patel.

A military service will be conducted by American Legion
Post 164 at the cemetery.

Virginia Funeral Home of Grundy is in charge of arrangements.
