I recently came across two very interesting sources to anyone researching Stacy descendents who at one time lived in NY State, particularly DeKalb. I was aware of the connection to Stacyville, Iowa and Homer I. Stacy, but had not made connections with many of the Stacys of New York State outside my own line (from Oliver and Daniel Stacy). However, I found two very good sources that I would like to share, both of which can be accessed through Heritage Quest on line: The first document I found while looking for something else (of course!): The will of William Stacy of Utica (NY), dated Sep. 3, 1847 in Utica, probated Dec. 28, 1847, names his nephew Fitch B. Stacy, as well as brothers Isaac, Norman, Harvey, and Pelatiah. It also mentions sister-in-law Harriet Foster, daughters Mary Frances and Julia Elizabeth, and sisters Mary Backus, Harriet Trask, Philanda Farr, and Betsey Anderson (deceased). Executors were Wm H Averall of Cooperstown, and Thomas H Walker of Utica. Witnesses were Gilbert A Foster and David E Morris, both of Utica. In: Barber, Gertrude A.: Abstracts of wills in Oneida County, NY; copied from the original records in the Surrogates Office, Utica, NY, 1939, p. 6_12 (Vol. 6, p. 12). Through this connection of William (who I now know to be the son of Isaac and Abigail (Averill) Stacy, as is Isaac Stacy, father of Homer Stacy, I then made the connection with Paletiah Stacy, who had 12 children, all of whom but one (Edson, who was killed in the civil war) had spouses and descendants): Tanner, Elias F. The genealogy of the descendants of Thomas Tanner, Sr., of Cornwall, Connecticut : with brief notes of allied families : also short sketches of several towns of their early residence : a Columbian memorial Lansing, Mich.: Darius D. Thorp, Printer and Binder, 1893, pp. 1, 3-4, 33-34, 42-45. (Jerusha Tanner was the wife of Pelatiah Stacy; see also DeKalb 1860 census). Several of the descendants of Pelatiah Stacy went to Iowa as well, and I hope this information may be helpful to anyone whose ancestors married a Stacy in New York in the 19th century. This information is hard to come by, in my experience. By the way, I understand that there is a DeKalb Stacy reunion, and I would be interested to hear about that if anyone could let me know. We plan to visit NY this summer (July) doing Stacy research in Camden (NY) in particular. Glenn Flodstrom Manassas, VA Notify Administrator about this message?
