I am looking for any info on Mary Alice Spyres, from Washington County, Arkansas. Info on any of the Spyres family from Washington County would be helpful, as I have next to nothing on info. All I know is this: She married W. D. Wells (William David Wells) on 23 Dec 1888, in Washington County. I believe she is part of the Spyres family that resided in Lees Creek, Washington Co., Arkansas. Her father was possibly Malen Hubbard Spyres, mother possibly Hannah Jane Biddick Spyres. I have no factual information on Mary Alice Spyres other than the marriage date as recorded in Arkansas' Marriage records. However, on 24 Dec 18 1899, W. D. Wells married Orena Rhine. So somewhere in that 11 year period between his two marriages, Mary Alice Spyres Wells disappeared from the picture, assuming through death or divorce. I can find no evidence of either. W. D. Wells was my maternal great-grandfather, and Orena Rhine Wells was my maternal great-grandmother. Their first daughter was named Lillie Pearl Wells, born in 1901. The Spyres family of Lees Creek, Washington County, had a Lillie Spyres, and another female named Pearl Spyres. So it's a distinct possibility that Lillie Pearl Wells was named for sentimental reasons after some of W. D.'s first wife's family. This would seem to indicate Mary Alice had died and there was still strong sentiment towards her from both W. D. and his new wife Orena. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
