Carolyn,

Using his age of around 5 you can check the 1900 census and find his parents. By using his father's age you can maybe find him also by going to the census that shows him as a child. 1850 was the first census that showed names of household other than heads. This may your ancestor who was in the Civil War. Lexington is not that far from the Greenwood/Abbeville area. You may email me direct at: jjhowell41@aol.com
