> JOHN FREDERICK SEYBERT (aka Sibert, Sivert, etc.) was born about 1759 in Hesse Cassel, Germany. He was a Hessian soldier at the Battle of Trenton in NJ and was taken to either Lancaster or Berks Co, PA after the Hessians surrendered. He joined the 6th Battalion, Capt. Conrad Shirman's Company of the Berks County, PA, Militia. His name is listed as, "Frederick Seybert" on the Company
payroll dated August 10 to Sept. 9, 1780. (PA Archives, 5th Series, Vol 5, Pg 241&2) His name has been on the DAR Patriot List since the 1920's.

He married Martha (or Elizabeth) Curtis (maybe it should be a German spelling?) in PA. According to Bible Records, their children were:Catharine (b 27 Jun 1784), George (b19 Sep 1786), Jacob (b 13 Dec 1789), Polly (b 26 Sep 1792),
Sally (b 27 Mar 1796), Elisabeth (b 11Nov 1798), Susanna (b 3 Nov 1801).

I can't find any records in PA to further document the time the family lived there. Various census listings appear to be him, however, the family members don't match. A sample:
1790 Berks Co. Census - Frederick Seybert living in Bethel Township.
1790 Dauphin Co. Census (unkwn Twnshp) - John Sibert
1800 Dauphin Co. Census (Lower Paxton Twnshp) - John Sibert

The family moved to VA about 1802 and are on the 1810 Ohio Co, VA Census under the name, John Seybert. According to early accounts, they were some of the first settlers to the Sand Hill District of Ohio County, VA. I know there
is a Sand HIll in what is now Lebanon Co., near the boundry with Berks Co..
Could they have named their new location for the one they had left behind?
I hope someone can find a few more clues to fill in the gaps. Thanks for any help you can give me to break through the brick wall.
