Cathie, Lewis DeWolf Sibley was my dad’s friend growing up in Newport NH. He was the ony child of Homer Taft and Goldena Lewis Sibley. Goldena was an opera singer in New York and gave my father singing lessons. The Sibleys were a well-to-do family, owning the woolen mill and the town theater. Homer was an architect who was educated in Germany. Lewis served in the army in Europe during WWII. In 1945 after the Battle of the Bulge he was traveling to the place where his father went to school and was killed by a sniper. His body was sent back to the states and is buried in the cemetery in North Newport. His parents are there also. We (my dad and I) visit the grave each Memorial Day while in town. Mrs. Sibley had no siblings to my dad’s knowledge. Homer had a sister who married a man named Winter. They lived in Newport and had two sons, Frank and Warren. They were older than Lewis, perhaps by as much as 10 years. My dad remembers a visit to Mrs. Sibley after the war by a man named Ian who served with Lewis in the army. Perhaps this will be of some help. Notify Administrator about this message?
