I thought I might be able to help you get a little bit further back but there seem to be two George Sherwins born at about the same time in Alavston and Boulton.. and in 1861 the George Sherwin born in Alavaston c1813 is lodging with your George Sherwin.
You've probably looked into all this already but...
On the 1851 census Susan isn't listed as living with her parents. Her father George is listed as being born c1812 in Boulton and his wife c1808 in Boulton. This suggests that he is probably the George bpt 26 Dec 1812 in Alvaston to William and Elizabeth Sherwin.
Susan aged 11 is working as a Servant to William Sherwin the Wheelwright born 18 jan 1818 Suggesting that the two families might be related.
