I have been reading the messages posted on this line with interest as I am also descended from Jacob and it now appears to be Catherine. My line is Jacob<Daniel<Andrew (1786 VA-13 Mar 1859 Union Co, IL)<William Carroll< George Washington<Aurelius Alvin<Lauden H and me.
I believe Andrew was in Guilford Co, NC in 1810 but I have no proof. I believe this was probably where he was married to Lucy ? born 1789 Germany and is shown with a son under age 10. There is no other info shown about this possible son as the census records of Union Co, and the probate records do not list him.
Andrew was in GA by 1813 until after 1817, AL by 1823 until after 1825 and then in Union Co, IL by 1829 when a daughter was born.

Andrew is shown as Shaver in the transcription of the 1830 census, Shaffer in the purchase of land in 1833 and the 1840 census and Sheffer in the 1850 census.

It would seem to me that the marriage of Jacob and Catherine would have been after 1848 if the date of arrival in Philadelphia is correct.
