Shelby,

About 150 years ago my great great grandfather's brother moved to Beal City from Westphalia and it is said they changed the spelling of the last name from Schafer (or Schaefer) to Shafer. I have not actually attempted to find information in that area yet but I'd love to get any information I could on that side of the family.
