Shafer Family in NJ, NY, and Pennsylvania late 1800's early 1900's

Ok--I'm trying to track stuff down, and have almost no dates or full names. Supposedly our Shafer comes from Dutch, not German, and I'm trying to trace it back.

I have:

David John Shafer married Emma ____
they had:
Arthur Bronston Shafer (no clue about other siblings) who married Macrina Susanna Van Sickle
they had:
Dawson Arthur Shafer
Willa Mae Shafer
Clarence Elmer Shafer
James Insley Shafer (who is my husband's grandfather--he married Anita Lillian La Croix)
Ida Cecilia Shafer

According to the story we've been told, James Insley Shafer was born in NJ, moved while a small boy to Strasborgh, PA, then later to Hawthorne, NJ. Family reunions were held at the old country stone house on the family estate in Strasborgh.

That's about all I know. James and Anita were married in 1935 if that helps.

Anyone with more info would be really helpful!!!!

Thanks!
Sharalyn
