Kat,

I believe we may have family ties in James and Mary Shafer of Mountain Top.

I descend from Elizabeth Shafer born 1836, believed to be the daughter of James Shafer and Mary (Garrison)? She married Archibald Carey and received a civil war widow's pension. Mary Shafer/Shaffer and Cornelius Garrison both signed affidavits on her behalf.

Luzerne County deeds, John & Catherine Garrison to James Shaffer, Wright Township in 1837. Property later transferred to Archibald Carey from James Shaffer & wife, Mary. Archibald Carey and wife, Elizabeth transfer property back to Mary Shaffer in 1862.

Elizabeth married at time of 1850 and 1860 census, but the following children appear with James & Mary Shaffer in Wright Township.
Joseph b 1838, Lydia A. 1842, Eliza 1844, Mary 1847, Henry 1850, Samuel 1852, and Archibald 1854.
