I do not know the ancestry of Hamilton SELBY, b. ca. 1818, but I think it's likely that he belonged to one of the early Maryland families rather than being born in England. On 27 April 1748, Anne Arundel Co., MD, William HAMILTON & Mordecai SILBY {sic} witnessed a deed from Charles HARRISON to John HAMILTON.

Margaret MYERS' Marriage Licenses of Fredk. Co., MD (to 1840):
SELVEY, Hamilton, 30 Je. 1840, Rebecca YINGLING.

Census of 1850, Buckeystown, Frederick Co., MD:
SELVEY, Hamilton, 30; Rebecca, 40; William T. H., 5; & Sarah A. R., 1.

Fredk. Co., 1870, SELVEY, Hamilton, 52; Jane, 59; Wm., 25; Sarah A. R., 20.

RootsWeb Family Trees: Rebecca died in August 1852. Burial place is listed under two names, Ira Sears Cem. & Yingling Cem., Frederick, Frederick Co., MD.

Thomas SELBY (from Berkeley Co., [W] VA, to Ashland Co., OH) & Catherine HAY had a different Hamilton SELBY (5 Oct. 1808 - Oct. 1878).

Can you think of other clues?
