Laura Scudder was born July 12, 1795, daughter of Ezekiel Scudder and Cynthia Gould. She married Elisha Brace November 1815 in Victor, Ontario County, NY and had two sons, Elisha born 1818 and Russell born 1819. Her husband died in 1820, and Laura married Ezekiel Morse in 1826. They had two sons, Romeyn Floyd Morse born September 21, 1827 and William R. Morse born December 17, 1832. Laura died December 3, 1835 in Brighton, Monroe County, NY.

In the town of Brighton, on the second inst., Mrs. Laura Morse, consort of Ezekiel Morse, Esq. aged about 40. As a woman, she was surpassed by but few, either in intellectual endowments, or the cultivation of the moral powers. In her social habits, she was cheerful and interesting, and in her attention to domestic interest, unremitting. But as a Christian she excelled. The uniformity of her pious conduct in health; her patient resignation during a long protracted sickness and her triumph in death, all conspire to place her name on the list of the brightest ornaments of the church. She was this day consigned to the dust, followed by a large concourse of relatives and friends, whose tears testified how highly they appreciated her worth.
