My grandfather was James A. Schaeffer, born June 27, 1890, died 1932 in St. Louis. I recently found him in the 1900 census as an "inmate" in the St. Joseph's Male Orphan Asylum in St. Louis. Until I found this info, I thought his biological mother was Mary Elizabeth Morrissey of St. Louis who was married to Laurence Morrissey last and married to a Schaeffer at some time. But Mary was married to a John Walsh of St. Louis on the 1920 census and James and my grandmother were living with them. And he listed his parentage as being German and the Walsh's both listed their parentage as Irish. So now I am really confused!!
