Hey all! I am looking for photos of any of these people. O have Albert and his family's photos, but none of his parents, siblings or other relatives. If you have anything, I am willing to swap what little I have. -Kara Andrew Schaefer Family Andrew Schaefer left his native Bavaria, Germany in 1850 or 1851 along with his wife Mary Ann (Volk) and seven children. Beginning in 1848 a series of Nationalist revolutions spread over Europe. When it reached Germany it caused a great exodus of immigrants to the United States. The Schaefers were a farm family in Germany and when they settled in Scott County in 1852 Andrew bought 160 acres for $80.00 at a sheriff’s auction. The land was located south of the junction of highway 61 and rout A. Andrew was born Aug. 15, 1803 and died on Jan. 27, 1873. His wife was born on June 9, 1809 and died on Sept 13, 1858 and was also buried at New Hamburg, Mo. They had seven children who were: John, Bartholomew, Magdalina, Casper, Michael, Bartel, and Gertrude. John was born on Aug 24 1839 in Bavaria, Germany and died on June 19, 1897. His wife, Katharine (Mairgaux) was born in Oct. 1844 and died on Aug. 31, 1906 and was also buried at Kelso, Mo. They had five children who were: August, John F., Mary Josephine, Henry and Leo. John served in the Civil War with the Union forces. He enlisted with the second Illinois Light Artillery Company D. The most famous battle he participated in was Shiloh where the Company D helped preserve victory for General Grant. The company lost 18 men and had 28 wounded during battle. The company had 6 cannons and lost 4 to the Confederates during the first day of battle. They recaptured them during the next days of battle. After the war ended he settled on a farm outside of Kelso and later retired to the town of Kelso. Next in my direct line was John Frank Schaefer who was born on 20 November 1868 in New Hamburg, Mo. And died on 9 March 1953 in St. Augustine, Kelso, MO. His wife, Katherina (Katy) Schmitt was born on 16 December 1876 in New Hamburg, MO. and died on 21 July 1952 in St. Augustine, Mo. They had seven children who were: Mary, Corina, Albert, Josephine, Anton, Loretta, and Raymond. John's occupation was a Farmer. Next in my direct line was Albert who was born 2 February 1908 in Mo., and died on _________________. His wife Bessie Agnes Byington was born on 20 April 1908 in French Village, MO and died 10 October 1994 in Weingarten, MO. They had three children who are: Norma Jean, Kenneth, and Deanna. Albert's occupation was a railroad worker. The Andrew Schaefer family has lived in Scott County for 136 years and six generations. Notify Administrator about this message?
