I spent much time and effort trying to find my father, with no luck. I never met him (he abandoned my mother when she was pregnant with me), have never seen a picture of him, have no medical history on my father's side, don't know if he ever had any other children...but I would like to find out what I can.
This is what I was told about him, growing up. I have no certainty that this information is correct, but it's all I have.
Name: Elwood Edwin Schaefer (or Elwood Edgar Schaeffer? Not sure if Schaeffer is spelled with one F or two) He went by the nickname of "Al."
Born approximately 1915 (give or take a year or two), in Michigan (Detroit, I think) to neuveaux riche German immigrant parents.
He had red hair and blue eyes.
He had a brother named Tony. (Anthony?)
My father was an architect, I was told.
He had been married once, to a nurse (and divorced, by 1949. No children by her).
He was never in the service (flat feet or an inner ear problem or something).
He was wealthy, in the yacht club.
When he abandoned my mother, in early 1950, he was traced to Ohio (Cincinnati, I think. Or Columbus?)
I checked all over to find him - I even hired a private detective - but had no results. I would like to see a picture of him, and/or know whether or not he had any other children with any other women (do I have a brother or sister out there anywhere?). I assume he's deceased, but I'd like to know if he's not.
If you know anything about the Schaefer's of Detroit (circa 1950 or so), I'd appreciate hearing. Thanks.
