We feel sure my husband descends through this son of Philip and Elizabeth (Coyle) Saylor, John, who is supposed to have had a son, Isaac. Do you have the children of John?

My husband's great grandfather, William Jerome Sailor, was in the 3rd MO Infantry during the Civil War (though he was from IL), and his father, Isaac C. Sailor (probably born Saylor), was at on the IL Militia role in 1855. One of the ancestors in this line was in the Civil War as an officer of some sort, as there used to be a photo of him in the family, along with a sword and sash. William Jerome Sailor, early a clerk, then an attorney, and later a banker, was b.c. 1838/39, poss. PA, TN, or IL (says on marriage record TN; 1880 Census of Wayne Co., IL, says IL; 1850 Census, and 1862 Military Census say PA); died Wayne Co., IL, Jan. 1892 (obituary, Wayne County Press), buried Maple Hill Cemetery, Fairfield, Wayne Co., IL; md. Susan Tee Bryant (called "Tee"), 14 Sept. 1876, Woodford County, KY. Susan Tee Bryant was b. 3 June 1853, Versailles, Woodford Co., KY, d. 13 July 1929, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake Co., UT; her body was sent back to IL. Susan Tee's parents were Thomas and Susan Catherine (Thornton) Bryant, of Woodford County, KY. Her Bryants were related to the Boones, and we do have quite a lot on that line. Her ancestor was brother to the Rebecca Bryant that md. Daniel Boone. William Jerome Sailor also md. 1) Mary E. Schaeffer, b. 14 March 1846, IL, d. 27 April 1872, Wayne Co., IL. William Jerome and Mary E. (Schaeffer) Sailor had a daughter, Nellie, b.c. 1869 (1 in 1870), IL, md. Oscar A. Harvey, 25 April 1889, Wayne Co., IL. William Jerome and Susan Tee (Bryant) Sailor had the following children: Lutie, b.c. 1877 (3 in 1880), IL; md. Leslie H. Burke, 28 June 1905, Wayne Co., IL; Frederick Jerome "Fred," b. 5 Aug. 1879, Fairfield, Wayne Co., IL, d. 3 June 1944, Salt Lake City, SL Co., UT, md. Josie Celeste Toone, 3 July 1922, Bountiful, Davis Co., UT; Michael, lived in Ogden, UT, area at one time, was a railroad man; George, family tradition says he ran off with the circus; Mamie, md. Mike Darms (or Darmes); and Willie, b. 26 Sept. 1884, d. 6 Feb. 1886, at home of her mother's mother, Versailles, Woodford Co., KY. Fred Sailor, listed here, is my husband's grandfather. His wife changed the name to Saylor after he died (back to Saylor?).

William Jerome Sailor's father:

Isaac C. Sailor (prob. b. Saylor), a wagon maker, merchant, and sawmill worker, was born about 1818, in PA; we don't know when he died or where; md. Lucetta _____ (who was born about 1821), in PA. They're shown in the 1850 Census of IL, in Wayne County, with 5 children: William (who is William Jerome Sailor, shown there b.c. 1838, PA), Painuel (a misspelling for Samuel, b.c. 1840, PA; this misspelling is corrected in later censuses ), Emma (b.c. 1844, IL, who md. Ryan), Lawvey (may be short for Lavina, or be Lovey, b.c. 1847, IL), and Amy C. (b.c. 1848, IL). From later censuses and other data found since I last posted, we know: Samuel L. Sailor, b.c. 1840-42, PA, d. before 1880, bur. Slocumb Cemetery, Wayne Co., IL, Civil War soldier, engineer in sawmill, md. Edith "Edie" Norman, their son, Isaac Coil (sic) Sailor, b.c. 1870, IL, d. 29 Jan. 1926, Jefferson Co., Mt. Vernon Twnshp., IL; Lawvey is Laura Sailor; Amy C. is Anna E. "Annie" Sailor, md. 26 March 1873, Edward Wilson, son of John Wilson; Delia (also referred to in censuses as Adilla and Della), b.c. 1850-52, IL, md. _____ Charter, lived at Little Rock, Pulaski Co., Arkansas, at one time; Allen C. Sailor, b.c. 1852-54, IL, d. 6-18 May 1884, Little Rock, Pulaski Co., Arkansas, of drowning; and Isaac W. Sailor, b.c. 1857, who may have died before 1870.
The entire problem is that we are having extreme difficulty connecting Isaac C. Sailor to the correct Sailor/Saylor (etc.) line in PA.

Let me make this completely clear: We believe we fit into the Isaac, son of Philip and Elizabeth (Coyle) Saylor line, because of Isaac Coil Sailor's name (son of Samuel, son of our Isaac C.), and because our Isaac was named Isaac C. We believe this "Coil" is misspelled or an alternate spelling, and we believe the "C." in our Isaac C. Saylor/Sailor's name stands for Coyle.

Can you help hook this line to the PA line in a more definite way? We would appreciate any and all help.

Gwen (Ladd) Saylor
