Capt. Joseph Richeson of Caroline County VA had a son Elliott. Source: lawsuit, which can be seen at the Library of Virginia website, Chancery Records, Caroline County, click on surname "starts with" and type RICHE. Administrators of Henry Chiles (Tarleton and Fleming) vs. Administrators of John Chiles (Samuel). p. 11: Samuel Chiles' deposition: "Joseph Richeson did bring from Kentucky sundry horses which were left with this defendant [Samuel] to be by him supported (and for which he was paid by Richeson) until they could be disposed of........[to pay debts that Samuel's father John Chiles was bound as security to]...."but the horses were taken out of this defendant's possession by CAPT. RICHERSON'S SON ELLIOTT who secreted them in the neighborhood where they were found the same day by the Sheriff who took them....." This and other cases also show that: the same Capt. Joseph Richerson/Richeson was granted 10,000 acres in Kentucky (at a time when KY had only 3 counties, land was in Jefferson Co), surveyed Marh 15, 1783 "granted to the said Joseph Richeson by patent bearing date the 1st day of June 1784 lying and being in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky on the Cumberland road fork of Sinking Creek and including the ridge between the said fork of Robinsons Creek (etc) In 1794, Joseph Richerson was described as being of St. Margarets Parish in Caroline Co. Ultimately in 1815, because of debts, 9000 acres were sold at auction in Richmond at Bell Tavern to the highest bidder, Tarleton Chiles, for $630. Capt. Richerson was partner in a business Richerson Turner and Company, with John Chiles and George Turner Re son Elliott--is this the Elliot who married Nancy Sears by 1797 ? Did he also remarry Sally Guy in 1803, or is this another Elliott? Notify Administrator about this message?
