Neil Alan Richerson, 60, of Riceville, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at his residence.


He was a native of Tulsa, Okla., a former resident of Atlanta, Ga., and a resident of McMinn County for 16 years. He was a 19-year employee of General Electric and was a contractor, serving several area hospitals including Athens Regional Medical Center as a biomedical engineer. He had repaired medical equipment for the past 28 years.


He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, having served in the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Willis Richerson; and one grandson, Timothy Alan Menie.


Through a job transfer, he moved to Atlanta, Ga., in 1985. There he met and married his wife, Brenda. He rededicated his life to Christ and became very involved with the Georgia State Gospel Singing Convention. He served as chaplain for the annual Fourth of July singing in Dallas, Ga., for several years, even after moving to Tennessee. Currently, he was the Minister of Music at Dry Valley Baptist Church in Trion, Ga. He was also a gifted teacher and speaker, having been ordained as a minister in 2004.


Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Brenda Ann Gravett Richerson of Riceville; his mother, Myrtle King Richerson of Tulsa, Okla.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Tracie and Todd Menie of Wichita, Kan., Lori Holzhauser of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Lesley and Justin Monteith of Ellijay, Ga.; one sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Ken Born of Tulsa, Okla.; his mother-in-law, Ann Gravett of Dallas, Ga.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Hensley, the Rev. Jimmy Weaver and the Rev. James Morgan officiating. Music will be provided by Billy Tyson and Caleb Leamon.


The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.


Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
