1732, Dec. 3. Richardson, Samuel, of Cape May Co.; Will of. To my brother, Benjamin Richardson, all my land; but if my wife be now with child and it comes to age, then said land to belong to the child. If said Benjamin possesses the land, he shall pay £10 to my brother, John Richardson, within one year, and £5 to my brother, Jacob Richardson, when 21. Wife, Elizabeth, all the chattels, except my best hat, which my brother Jacob shall have when of age. Executors—wife, Elizabeth, and my brother Benjamin.
Witnesses— John Jones, James Fiood, Ephraim Edwards. Proved 20 March, 1732-3.

1738, Feb 9. Richardson, Benjamin of Cape May Co., yeoman; Will of. Wife, Elizabeth, the use of all my lands until my son, Samuel, will be 21; she to bring up and maintain my two children unless she marries before that time; then I desire my brother, Jacob Richardson, to take immediately my lands and to have the use of my other estate, which is hereafter given to my children, for their maintenance. Son, Samuel, to have all lands I live on, and to pay £20 to his brother, John, when of age. Residue of my estate shall be equally divided between my two said children and "I desire my wife to take into her hands and bring up and maintain them until each one will be fourteen years of age." Executors—wife, Elizabeth, and my brother, Jacob Richardson. Witnesses—Ephraim Edwards, James Edwards, An. Leaming, Junior. Proved 26 November, 1739. Lib. 4, p. 222.

Annexed is a copy of the oath of allegiance taken and signed, by those friendly to the revolution, with the names of all the signers in this county:

Oath of Allegiance.—" I do sincerely profess and swear, I do not hold myself bound by allegiance to the King of Great Britain—so help me God. I do sincerely profess and swear, that I do and will bear true faith and allegiance to the government established in this state, under the authority of the people—so help me God. May 27th, 1778." Jacob Richardson – was one of the 87 signees.

Deed. 9 May 1773. Joseph Richardson of Duck Creek Hundred in County of Kent, shallop man, and Stephen Richardson of Appoquinimink Hundred im Co. of New Castle, weaver, for the sum of 5 shillings grant unto Jacob Richardson in Co. of Caper [Cape] May in Prov. of West New Jersey, farmer, and Mary his wife, late Mary Marsh, Nathaniel Philips of same place, pilot and Agnes his wife, late Agnes Marsh, and William Truax Marsh of Appoq. Hundred, yeoman, a plantation tract of land containing 100 acres located in Appoq. Hd. It bounds the formerly of Ephraim Harman. dec'd, called Good Land, and is part of a larger tract called the Exchange. This is property that Edward Richardson, dec'd, in his lifetime was seized of. He executed a conveyance of same to John Marsh, and afterwards in his Last Will, he devised all of his estate to Joseph, Thomas and Stephen Richardson. Sd Thomas died Intestate. Sd John Marsh then died Intestate, leaving issue three children viz: Mary, who intermarried with sd. Jacob Richardson, Agnes, who intermarried with sd Nathaniel Philips, and William Truax Marsh. Signed: Joseph Richardson (mark), Stephen Richardson (mark). Wit: William Pell, John Edenfield, John Moore, Marinas Haughey, Harvey Gregg. Recorded: 29 July 1774. (B2:p54)

Agreement to Purchase Lands in Cape May Co.

Whereas the West N.J. Society once stood seized of 9000 acres of land situated & containing the chiefest part of that "Island or Tract of Land called Cape May" between Delaware Bay & Great Egg Harbor River & the said Society having sold the best portions thereof to divers persons & whereas there is yet remaining unsold a parcel of broken & sunken marshes, sounds, creeks, barren lands &c of very little value which nevertheless if the same should be purchased by any particular persons in large Tracts it might [be] an inducement for such persons to endeavour to monopolize the Fisher, Oystering &c which Nature seems to have intended for a general blessing to the Poor & others who have bought the lands & settled contiguous thereto And many of us the Subscribers having already given advanced prices for our Land by reason of the vicinity of the said priviledges are now unwilling to be deprived thereof: Wherefore we the Subscribers each & every of us agree &c with each other in manner & form following - to wit. That we will each associate & join in the purchase of the said land &c to be held in equal shares amongst us &c as tennants in common &c &c (numerous provisions follow). Dated this 20th day of November Anno Domini 1752. Was signed by Jacob {Aaron Leaming [Leaming's Book of Surveys, Cape May, p. 165.}
