Hi again Robin, We spend 5 July 2009 cemetery hopping and digging up partially or totally covered tombstones in Lewis County, Missouri for the Dance and Richardson family areas. What a mess up there! In the "Little Mountain Cemetery", more commonly just known to the public mind as the Monticello Cemetery in Monticello, Lewis Co., Missouri there were so many of the old stones fallen over and totally covered with the thick crabgrass we will come back when the weather's cooler with tools to make the job easier. We and our children were ripping up the thick grass and inch or two of dirt with our hands for hours. When you die--make sure you get a giant granite stone and massive granite base! That's the only way to do it right! Save your posterity the trouble of getting so many chigger bites trying to straighten things up... Even more sad was the old, began about 1840 (not in service anymore) Piner Cemetery in Dickerson Township, Lewis Co. The *&&^%$##@ Electricity company in the area had bought a right of way through the wilderness for some high tension lines and due to the high weeds didn''t "notice" all those 1800's and early 1900's headstones they were bulldozing!!!! and running trucks through!!!!!! Local sheriff didn't think he could do anything about it since it hadn't been being taken care of by anyone--moral of this story-- Purchase your grave in a very well financially endowed cemetery!
