There is a photo of an original signed parchment property document dated 1835 on website http://www.familychest.co.uk/default.htm (use the surname search). CONCERNS William Richards of Hinnerton Lodge, County of Flint, Esquire. Philippa Grosvenor Richards, wife of William Richards. Henry Potts the younger of Chester, Cheshire. Esquire. We are told that Philippa Richards is the only sister and heiress at law of Dorothea Nicholls late of Chester, Widow, deceased and her inherited property in Chester from her. Philippa Richards, with the agreement of her husband William, is now selling the property to Henry Potts. This appears to be a sale by Lease and Release, since we are told of a Lease for a Year made the previous day. The complication is that the property is sold to Henry Potts in trust to the use of Philippa Richards, which explains why the sale price is only 10 shillings (10/-d) (the object of this type of transaction was to keep the property of a married woman at arm's length from her husband). The property consists of a dwelling house with garden in the West side of Nicholas Street, Parish of the Holy Trinity, Chester, together with a coach house and stable.
