In researching my husbands paternal lines, I discovered a father and son who completely changed their names from Richards to Proctor between 1910-1920. If you relate let me know. There were other kids born to the father and I don't know to what extent they changed their names as this is fairly recent history and they are difficult to research. Father: Paul J. Richards aka Proctor b. Sep 1877 Church Hill, Queen Anne's, MD d. after 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri m. Estelle (Essie) M. Whaley children all Richards aka Proctor: Charles E. Richards b. 1901 twin William Henry Richards b. 1901 twin Joseph Harvey Richards b. 1902 Lewin G. Richards b. 1908 Alma Elma Richards b. 1913 Joseph Harvey Richards married at least twice and died in 1989 in Virginia. He abandoned both known families. He used the Proctor name, as did his father, from sometime between 1910-1920 on, but apparently didn't change it legally as some records stayed in the Richards name. We have pictures of Joseph Harvey Proctor. I am specifically looking to see what happened to him after he left his 2nd known family, which probably occurred sometime in the 1950's. For another 30 years he was living his life and finally ended up in a cemetery in Virginia. He usually worked in the automobile business as a machinist. He was also in the military during WWII.
