I am trying to find out details for Peter Felix Richards, who was a sea captain, who opened the first western hotel in China in 1846 in Shanghai.

He was married to Rebecca.

One of his children was Peter Felix M. Richards (born ca. 1862 in Shanghai), who married Mary G.M. in 1893 at Eastry, Kent, and was resident in London, UK in 1901.

Apparently on 16 April 1855 Richards purchased a ship, the Margaret Mitchell, which had run aground off Woosung, China and required extensive repairs to make it seaworthy. On 15 May 1856 Richards was declared insolvent by decree of the British Consular Court in Shanghai, and all of his assets (including the Margaret Mitchell and the Astor House Hotel) were assigned to his creditors.
