My mother took me to the gravestone bearing her father's parents names many times as she always put flowers on the family graves every Memorial Day. However, I have no information on them. The City Clerk in Manchester, NH has no record of them. Gabriel died in the late 1800s and Eleanora died in 1910. My mother was born in 1909 so she was only a year old when her grandmother died and her grandfather died prior to her birth. No one is left from that generation to help. My grandfather was Frank Christophe Richards. That's not a misspelling on his middle name. His birth record shows no letter 'r' at the end. My mother said she was told they emigrated from Ireland at some point, but the name sounds French to me. Frank had a sister named Eliza who lived in or near Dracut, MA in the early 1900s and who ran a boarding house for actors and actresses. My mother worked for her aunt as a chambermaid one summer when she was fourteen or fifteen. I'm thinking that maybe Gabriel & Eleanora lived with Eliza when they were old and actually died in Massachusetts and that's why there's no death record in NH. I've sent away to Boston to see if they have death certs on file. I have the dates from the stone. So, my question is whether anyone out there has Richards family from the Manchester, NH area who could shed some light on the family history. I can trace Frank's wife Emma Lafond's family back to the 16th century thanks to a guy named Vern Paul who is a Lafond descendant. It's frustrating not to have any info on the Richards branch. Thanks.
