Rays in Greene Co., GA in 1820, 1830, and 1840

Has anyone researched the Ray families that were in Greene Co., GA in 1820, 1830, and 1840? There is 3 familes that have a male child under 5 in 1830. Those are Emanuel Ray, Mrs. Jerusha Ray, and John H. Ray.

My mother-in-laws great grandfather, James Andrew Ray, was born in Dover, Greene Co., GA in 1826. He died in Birmingham Al in 1913, out-living all but one of his children. He married Elizabeth Fenton Starr in Chambers Co., AL in 1848. Elizabeth Fenton Starr Ray was the mother of David Lorenzo Ray, my m-i-l's grandfather.

On James Andrew Ray's death certificate his parents are listed as Unknown. This information was given by his third wife, Maria Stewart. The birth place comes from the 1907 census of Confederate Soldiers.

I am looking for this info to find James' parents. My m-i-l never knew anything about her grandfather's family. Her grandmother Clara Pritchett Ray died in the 1918 flu epidemic and my m-i-l's mother never talked about her father. So we have no oral history to fall back on.

I would appreciate any information that might help me. My m-i-l is 91 and is getting pretty feeble. i would like to present her with this knowledge before it is too late!

Thank you!

Mona Herrin
